On-Screen 3D-RotationComputer screens have the disadvantage that data can only be displayed as two-dimensional plots, while human visual perception is capable of perceiving 3D scenes. Thus it would be a good idea to add a third dimension to the screen display. While this is impossible due to the physical setup of the screen device, there are some tricks to create a pseudo 3D impression. One trick is to rotate the 3D data and continuously update the 2D screen projection. This gives the illusion of a third dimension. The data laboratory has a command to select any three variables and to rotate the selected three dimensional subspace on-screen. You may take a look at the following interactive example which shows a banana-shaped data set. You can rotate the data by moving the mouse
while holding down the left mouse button.
